An old, familiar face is back in the NFC East.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Wednesday that the Dallas Cowboys hired former New York Giants head coach Ben McAdoo as a consultant. McAdoo built his resume working as an assistant and quarterbacks coach with the Green Bay Packers under Dallas head coach Mike McCarthy until he joined the Giants as offensive coordinator under Tom Coughlin in January 2014.
Big Blue appointed McAdoo head coach in January 2016, and he guided the Giants to a playoff berth and, ultimately, a postseason defeat at the Packers. Things quickly spiraled out of control the following season, however, and a losing record was made worse when McAdoo benched quarterback and club legend Eli Manning. That decision likely played a key part in both McAdoo and general manager Jerry Reese being fired before Christmas 2017.
Most recently, McAdoo served as quarterbacks coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2020. One now wonders if he’ll aid in Dak Prescott’s recovery as the Dallas signal-caller works to return from the compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle he suffered playing against the Giants last October.
