Happy Thursday ladies and welcome to another edition of dressing room diaries. If you’re new here, welcome. DRD is when I go into stores and try new merchandise on so you can see how it looks on a woman over 25. My hair gets trashed, the lighting is dim so the photos are grainy but you’ll get the idea of how things look.
For reference, I am 5’4″, weigh 136+ pounds, with wide shoulders and straight hips. I have a long torso and arms so often wear one size larger on top than the bottom. I shop in both the regular and petite dept to get the fit I want. I am an inverted triangle silhouette with very few curves.
I started with this cotton-blend lightweight dress in “patio red”. It comes in misses and petite in sizes XS-XL. Because I have a long torso, I am trying on the misses because the waist detail would be too high in the petite. I’m wearing a small which is snug so I would go up to a medium, possibly a large to keep it loose. I’d wear this with flat sandals for casual, hot days during the summer and would prefer loose over snug.
I added this open linen cardigan for some arm coverage because many women dislike sleeveless. It has a curved front hemline and does not fasten closed. It’s available in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite. I am wearing a petite medium which is a bit large but I prefer this for summer. Size down for a snugger fit.
Here’s the same exact dress in a blue and white stripe. It also comes in a sage & white stripe. It’s available in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite sizes XS-XL.
NOTE – I am wearing the misses in both dresses. The website shows this dress covering the model’s knees. Clearly, she is taller than me so I can’t explain this length discrepancy.
You know I’m all about linen and easy for summer so I couldn’t resist these pull-on linen pants with a loose leg. They’re available in chambray or this flax in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite. I’m wearing a 6 petite which is roomy and comfy so it runs true to size.
This open weave sweater comes in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite sizes XS-XL. It’s 100% cotton so perfect for a little coverage on warm days. I’m wearing a petite small which is snug. Because it’s cotton, it doesn’t have a ton of stretch, so I recommend you go up one size. Here is the same sweater in stripes which I would have bought if it was in the store. These colors are yummy!
I swapped out the open weave sweater for the above cardigan over a Pima cotton/modal/spandex tank that comes in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite in 8 colors. This is the stock-up kind of tank that I like to keep on hand for layering. I’m wearing a petite medium which is a perfect fit so it runs TTS.
Talbots makes this classic cotton shirt in tons of colors and prints every season, every year. It’s a great basic if you like classic style. It comes in misses and petite sizes XS-XL. I’m wearing a petite medium which fits but the sleeves are too short, so I would opt for a misses.
The salesperson told me these perfect skimmers are flying out the door. Also in CURVY fit here. They’re a cotton-spandex blend and feel like chino fabric. They have a slim leg, hit at your waist, and a pedal pusher length. They come in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite in 7 colors (this is gardenia). I’m wearing a 4 petite which is a touch snug so they run TTS.
Here are the skimmers in the navy in 6 petite which is a better fit for me. This is a 100% linen camp shirt that comes in misses, petite, and plus sizes XS-XL in this blue and fresh green. I’m wearing a misses XS which is much too tight, (see it pulling between the buttons) so since the sleeves get rolled, I would opt for a petite medium.
SHOP TALBOTS PANTS ON SALE
I’m a huge fan of elbow-length sleeves. This 100% Pima cotton tee is available in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite, sizes XS-XL in 7 colors. I’m wearing a misses medium which is too large and long so it runs TTS. I’d opt for the petite medium. These crop flare jeans are cotton, Lyocell, polyester, spandex blend, and very soft. They’re available in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite sizes 2-24. I’m wearing a 4 petite so these are the intended length. I’d size up to a six because white jeans are less forgiving than other colors. They’re in medium blue here, and dark rinse here.
I think I’m really showing my age, but I love these pedal pushers! I remember my mom wearing them! They’ve been popping up in the last few years and can be a refreshing alternative to both crops and shorts. Yes, they’re a total blast from the past but they’re back and many women are wearing them. They’re available in misses, petite, plus, and plus petite sizes 2-22 in this white and fresh, pretty green… curvy fit here. Polka dot version here, I’m wearing a petite 6.
WEARING – PETITE WHITE ON LEFT – MISSES BLUE DENIM (REGULAR LENGTH) ON RIGHT
The white is a petite 6 and the blue is a 6 regular. The regular hits at a wide spot on my calf which is less flattering than the petite length. Pants, crops, skirts, shorts, and dresses all look most flattering when they end where your leg narrows rather than at the widest part.
Talbots summer-style event is on with 30% off your entire purchase. This is just the tip of the iceberg of great pieces from Talbots so it’s worth a peek while the sale is on.
What pant length do you prefer? Would it feel too retro for you to wear pedal pushers?
