Tyler Mitchell, 26, has photographed Beyoncé, Kanye West (for GQ’s May 2020 cover), and Harry Styles, so it’s no surprise that the opening of his first art show, at both locations of Chelsea’s Jack Shainman Gallery on Thursday night, was jammed with serious fans. Walking among the stylish Mitchell devotees were Tracee Elliss Ross, Anna Wintour, stylist Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, Midland Agency’s Rachel Chandler, stylist Carlos Nazario, model Binx Walton, critic and curator Antwaun Sargent, and Tremaine Emory. A little after seven, Kendrick Lamar came through with his crew, and Mitchell walked him through the show, with nearly every iPhone in the room trained on them. The crowd was amazing, and even better, the show was awesome—a rich new body of work that marks Mitchell’s establishment as a major American artist. See the beautiful crowd that assembled in support of Mitchell below. As he put it at an equally packed after-party, “I feel the love.” —Rachel Tashjian
