Rapper Lil Yachty is joining the beauty world. The musician just announced his new nail polish line, called Crete, is launching on May 21 and we can’t get over its extremely chic packaging.

The Crete lineup features several shades of nail polish in neutral, go-with-everything hues of grey, black, and white. As Yachty showed off on Instagram, the polishes are packed in a clicker-style, slim, and stylish black tube, a departure from the traditional nail polish bottle. In the gallery post announcing the line, you can also see Lil Yachty’s all-Crete manicure with some subtle nail art. “I’d like to introduce my new nail paint line @crete__co,” he captioned the pics. “FIRST COLOR DROP MAY 21. 4 ALL GENDERS. FOR YOU, NOT THEM!”

As noted by Complex, the line was inspired in part not only by Yachty’s love of painting his nails as a form of self-expression but the story of 17-year-old Trevor Wilkinson, who was suspended from school in December 2020 for wearing nail polish. “If someone wants to express themself in any type of way, as long as it’s not harming anyone or bringing anyone down, they should be allowed to do so,” Lil Yachty said at the time. “You shouldn’t be punished or tormented for being you.”

The plans for Crete were already in the works when Trevor was suspended from his Texas school. “It’s essentially like, it’s unisex but I want it to be more focused on for men to use it, and to be more comfortable in their own skin,” Yachty shared of his plans. “Bro, it’s 2020, you know what I’m saying? It’s about to be 2021 — come on, what are barriers? We still have barriers?”

Though men have been painting their nails for decades, polish and manicures have become more and more popular for male musicians. We’ve seen everyone from A$AP Rocky and Lil Nas X to Bad Bunny and Harry Styles sporting manicures in recent years. Lil Yachty wants Crete to help further that self-expression. “If you find painting your nails is a way to show your creative side or it’s an aesthetic that fits you, you shouldn’t be judged for it,” Lil Yachty shared in a press release. “Outside opinion shouldn’t have an effect on your aesthetic and whatever you decide to do and this line is a reflection of that.”
