“The band is back together.”
Those are the words of legendary halfback Cooper Cronk as Des Hasler, Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieran Foran prepare to reunite one of the most iconic combinations of the modern rugby league era at the SCG this afternoon.
The trio were at the forefront of the Manly Sea Eagles force as they powered to the 2013 NRL premiership.
And while Hasler has since left to coach the Bulldogs and Foran has spent time with the Eels, Warriors and Canterbury-Bankstown, the duo are back with Cherry-Evans and intent on making the Sea Eagles a premiership force again.
Foran is emotional on the cusp of his Sea Eagles return.
“This club holds a special place in my heart,” Foran saidon Fox League’s coverage.
“I’ve had so many great memories here. I was involved in a great era here, I’m hoping to create plenty of great new memories and I’m sure once I throw that jersey on it’ll bring back some memories, for sure.”
Foran’s career has been riddled with injuries but he says he’s primed for season 2021.
“It’s held up really well. I’ve gotten through all of the pre-season, I’ve done every session, so I’m hopeful it’ll hold up good and I can put in a good performance today,” Foran said.
Cronk said the former New Zealand Test halfback looked impeccable.
“That’s the thing that’s probably let Kieran down the last few years is his body,” Cronk said.
“But from the pictures he looks amazing, in really good condition.
“The band’s back together with Des, Cherry-Evans and Foran.
“And Kieran said then that he hasn’t missed a session (in the pre-season).
“But Des plays his cards (close to his chest) because he didn’t play any of his big guns in that trial against the Tigers, so I think he’s been set for Round One here, no doubt about that.”
