Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris has been praised for his versatility. Because of that, he’s expecting to be used in a variety of roles during his rookie campaign.
Harris said after rookie minicamp that he expects to play “everywhere” in the offense, including wide receiver.
“They’re going to, I guess, line me up out wide and stuff like that how I did in college — utilize the running back in the passing game out wide, in the slot, all the way out to the ‘X’ position,” Harris said, according to Brian Batko the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Harris added that a lot of what he’ll be asked to do in Pittsburgh is similar to what he did while at Alabama, saying, “It’s just different terminology, but the same meaning at the end of the day.”
In four seasons with the Crimson Tide, the 23-year-old proved his worth as both a runner and receiver. He carried the ball 638 times for 3,843 yards and 45 touchdowns and caught 80 passes for 781 yards and 11 scores.
The Steelers made Harris the first running back off the board with the 24th overall pick in this year’s draft. Selecting a running back that high has been considered risky in recent years, but Pittsburgh hopes Harris will do a lot more than just run the ball.
