Back in March, we asked the Nintendo Life community if The Legend of Zelda was a role-playing series. According to more than half the votes, it’s not.

What if it was though? A freelance artist known as John Bond (@kaimatten over on Twitter), has shared an image of what the 2002/03 GameCube entry The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker might have looked like if it was a turn-based RPG. The result is a stunning piece of pixel art featuring a scene that would have perfectly fit in with the Game Boy Advance generation.

The closest fans ever really got to a portable version of The Wind Waker was The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and the follow-up, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks – both of which were released on the Nintendo DS. In recent times, there have also been rumours about Link’s epic cel-shaded adventure making a return for Zelda’s 35th anniversary.

How would you feel if Nintendo decided to swap from the typical “Action Adventure” to a traditional role-playing game, requiring you to build a party, level up and take on half-hour boss battles? Would you be interested in a game like the one above? Leave a comment down below.
