Welcome, September!! New Beginnings…
MMK Guest Post
Hello, All from MMK Guest Post in San Francisco!!
Celebrating September’s arrival is always bittersweet! It is part ending and beginning! Lives change…
Summer is here till the 22nd, yet the air always smells different somehow come September, the season ushering the harvest and autumn! Seasonal changes bring a time of new colors for our wardrobe, home décor, and spirits! We get ready for Indian Summer with a chill in the air. We pull out the cashmere and the throws!!

Oh…new beginnings…for you and those you love??
Schools open earlier and earlier, it seems…I remember returning after Labor Day!! Many begin kindergarten or a new grade at school, with photos documenting lives changing, growing, and maturing. Some return to classrooms or new schools, while others create whole new lives at colleges here and around the globe! Some are starting new positions and jobs too…in new cities…new apartments…new friends!! Parents celebrate their children’s advancement and maybe their own new “empty nests.” Definitely changes…
This week, of course, welcomed more babies…yes, Virgo babies!! Little “earth-loving – perfectionists.” A special congratulation to friends on the arrival of little boy WOB, born 8.29.21! August and September are said to have the most births! Born of cold-weather months and conceived during joyous holiday and new year celebrations!! How many do you know?? I am guessing…20-30?? My sister and I are among them…family, dear friends, colleagues, and mentors! I celebrate, cherish and love each one! xoxo

It is funny that September is actually the 9th month – yet it means 7th in Latin translation! Seems the change from the Roman to the Gregorian Calendar added January and February…thus 12 months, instead of the original 10! History is such a fun investigation…

Flowers for our beautiful new September include three beauties: Forget-Me-Nots – these little fleurettes symbolize true love and respect, typically blue, they also come in light pink, purple, and even white – Morning Glories climbing in blue, purple, red, pink, white and Asters -charmers in blue, purple, pink, white. Butterflies and hummingbirds are said to be attracted to them all…some more fun facts! All are loved for every occasion and room!! Artists Tommy Mitchell’s elegantly detailed hand-painted originals, Maria Canale’s classically modern Jewels, and Lenox China designers have all obviously been inspired by these September joyous blooms!!

This time of year, I traveled to France for the famed Maison & Objet gift show…so filled with creativity and inspiration!! Special memories – of discovering all the latest designs for the home and arts we so love! And, what would a trip to Paris be without the charming outdoor cafés with a Bouteille de Sancerre, lunch at Angelina’s on Rue de Rivoli, a visit to the Louvre, and my home away from home…Hotel Mayfair! xoxo

Les Jardin des Tuileries also comes to mind…the beautiful, serene escape from the Parisian bustle. André Le Nôtre, the famous gardener of King Louis XIV, created their original landscapes – joyous!! Michael Kenna has captured them in his exceptional Le Notre’s Garden photography – His work is a personal passion, as well as photography! He has intimately photographed much of the world, it seems…France, Italy, Japan, China, California, and New York with his romantically, mystifying eye!! xoxo

A beautiful September table is inspirational too, in soft Virgo earth tone blues with Jars Vuelta contemporary ceramic dinnerware collection. Their signature crackled texture and glass-like glaze are simple, elegant, and chic. I have loved helping couples create Registries with this pattern – the color seems to change when different linen colors combine. What do we expect from France?? Art & design – complét!

As we begin our new and beautiful month, enjoy creating your own charming alfresco setting with designs and dinnerware you love…
Until next Saturday – Cheers to September and her Virgos with bubbles and a little white Sancerre! Toasts and Special Happy Birthday Wishes to my dear sister MMM and Elizabeth, Paul, Jan, Kelley, Michael, Sylvia, Vincenzo, Peggy, Sara, Julia, Mercedes, Robbie, Elisabeth, Annie. Gina, Jeannette, Jenna, Karen, Christine, and Giorgio too!! Much love, xoxo MMK
