Spotify is introducing one of the features artists and listeners have been requesting for years: lossless streaming.
Spotify HiFi introduces CD-quality audio to the famed music streaming platform, making it a more worthy adversary of Tidal HiFi and Amazon Music HD. Spotify’s lossless audio tier will work on all of your devices, including Spotify Connect smart speakers. This announcement comes after years of belabored requests from artists and listeners alike.
There’s no word yet specifically on when Spotify HiFi will be available, but its initial release will be limited to specific, unknown markets. Spotify is keeping Spotify HiFi pricing shrouded in mystery too, though one may surmise that the cost of Spotify HiFi will directly compete with Tidal HiFi and Amazon Music HD’s rates of $19.99/month and $14.99/month (non-Prime subscribers), respectively.
This upgraded tier will elevate Spotify’s audio quality above that of Apple Music and widen the gap between Spotify and YouTube Music.
