How to Import and Adjust Clip Art Using Adobe Photoshop

In four simple steps, you’ll learn how to import and adjust the clip arts using Adobe Photoshop.

Step 1: Create a New Document

Open your Adobe Photoshop app, create a new document, and input your desired size. In this example, we’re going to make an Instagram post (1080 x 1080 pixels).

Step 2 : Importing the Clip Art

Open the downloaded folder and choose the clip art you want to use. Simply drag the clip art and drop it on your Adobe Photoshop Canvas.

Step 3: Adjusting the Clip Art

Now that the clip art is placed on the canvas, you can adjust it however you like—rotate, resize, add text, change background color.

To change background color, choose the color that you want by double-clicking the foreground color, then click OK. Now, click on the Background layer, then click alt+del to fill the layer.

To rotate and resize the clip art, use the Free Transform tool by clicking ctrl+T (or command + T for Mac), then adjust the image with the arrows on each corner.

To duplicate the clip art, click on the clip art layer, then click ctrl+J (or command+J for Mac). You can move the layer using the Move tool (V), and flip the clip art by clicking Edit > Transform. You can choose to flip it horizontally or vertically.

You can also add some text on the design. Simply click on the Text Tool (or press T) and place the text on the canvas. Add your text, then adjust the text’s position and size the same way you adjusted the clip art (above example).

Repeat Step 2 to add as many clip arts as you want.

Step 4: Saving the Design

Once you’ve finished your design, click File > Save As (Ctrl+Shift+S / Cmd+Shift+S). Then, a Save As window will appear. You can choose your destination folder, change your file name, and choose the Save As type. For social media posts, the JPEG file type is recommended. Click Save and OK. Your image is ready!

How to Import and Adjust the Clip Art Using Shutterstock Editor

No editing software? No problem. You can easily access Shutterstock Editor with your web browser and edit your image there. Here’s how.

Step 1: Create a New Document

When you open Shutterstock Editor, begin by choosing a size for your design. In Shutterstock Editor, you can easily choose the size that you need from the preset sizes. There are a variety of size options for any common design needs—Facebook image, Facebook cover, or Instagram post. Simply type the size you need on the Search preset sizes column.

You can change the design size anytime by clicking Canvas Size on top of the canvas.

Step 2: Importing the Clip Art

To import the clip art, click My files > Uploads > Upload Image. Upload the clip arts you want to use, then simply click or drag to place it on the canvas.

Step 3: Adjusting the Clip Art

Once the clip art has been placed on the canvas, you can start adjusting the position and size.

To resize, click and drag the corners of the image. To rotate, click on the rotate button at the bottom of the image and drag it until you get the rotation you want.

If you have two overlapping clip arts, you can choose which one you want to place in back. Right click on the image that you want to place in back, and choose Move backward to move it back a layer. Or, choose Move to back to place it at the very bottom layer.

To change the background, click on the Background button on top of the canvas and choose your preferred color. You can choose from the primary color options available, or add a custom color. When you add a custom color, you can either use the color slider, write down the HEX color, or use the color picker.

To add text, simply click on the Text Tool (A), and choose from the selection of text templates or customize your own text. Once you’ve placed your text on the canvas, the Text options toolbar will appear at the top of the canvas. With the toolbar, you can customize the font, alignment, color, or size of the text.

Step 4: Download Your Image

Once you’ve finished your design, simply click on the red Download button, choose the file type (JPG is recommended for social media usage), and download.
