LG Rollable

According to TheVerge, South Korea’s manufacturer, LG, has denied reports that it will discontinue the production of the rollable phoneAn LG spokesperson said: “I can firmly deny that any such decision on future mobile products has been finalized,”. However, this denial does not mean that the Rollable Phone will arrive this year. With LG not giving any assurances, the earlier report could be true. LG probably has made some decisions regarding the Rollable Phone. However, this decision should not be public for now.

If LG does decide to shelve Rollable, its original design may be changed and the release date may also be changed. Not every change in the production plan necessarily means the project is canceled. LG Rollable uses what LG calls a “unique resizable screen”. By sliding in and out to change the surface area, the screen can be transformed from the size of a mobile phone to the size of a small tablet. The size can be expanded from 6.8 inches to  7.4 inches.

LG Rollable reports

According to previous reports, the LG Rollable will come with very thin edges and a round display. The original size of the display can get up to 40% larger, even larger than many tablets. This device uses a rail system to make the sliding process smoother. On the back of the device, we have a triple camera setup.

According to reports, Samsung, TCL, and other companies are also studying similar devices. However, this technology is quite complex and it may take sometime before it arrives on the market. Nevertheless, there are speculations that Samsung will unveil a rollable phone this year.

It is important to note that this is only a patent. Like it is with all patents, there is no guarantee that this device will ever hit the market. In fact, most patents never see the light of day thus we can only keep our fingers crossed. It’s even harder to expect the LG Rollable to hit the market. This is because of the rumors that LG Electronics will quit the smartphone market.

Will LG sell its mobile business?

According to reports, LG may sell its mobile business to a Vietnamese company, Vingroup. This company covers a wide range of fields, such as hotels, tourism, real estate, construction, automobiles, and mobile phones. Its market value exceeds $10 billion. Industry insiders said that if Vingroup can acquire LG’s mobile phone business, it is expected to gain a foothold in the smartphone market.

However, there are also reports that the company will not sell all its mobile divisions to the same buyer. They plan to sell their mobile business in batches. Vingroup is only one of the potential buyers. But in any case, the chance of consumers seeing the mass production of LG scroll screen mobile phones is very slim.
