We speak to the style experts about why brown is trending and how to nail the look.

While we’ve always had a passion for black activewear, it seems the tide is turning in favour of brown.

That’s right – brown, the colour you may have previously thought of as a little boring or retro has become uber chic (and experts say it’s here to stay).

We’re embracing earthy, neutral tones, and are *a little obsessed* with some of the latest pieces from the activewear gods.

“For me brown is a newer more interesting option to black. It’s still neutral & muted but offers something different. Also, I think the pandemic and staying at home has drawn people to more earthy, neutral colours,” explains Nude Lucy’s head of Womenswear Nilou Zibaee.

“Influencers such as the Kardashians and Kanye West have also played a part in this trend of shapewear + underwear palettes being treated as fashion.”

One of the most important tips when choosing brown activewear is making sure you have the right tone for your skin.

If you’re paler, a deeper, cooler brown will be easier to wear, while the opposite is true if you have a deeper skin tone.

In terms of what to avoid?

“Yellow tones can wash you out,” says Zibaee. “Also browns that have a slight pink tone to them can be good if you want something a bit more femme.”

“Our rosewood hue is a nice “in between” blush & brown that compliments most skintones.”

While Zibaee says she doesn’t think anything will ever replace black in the colour-of-choice pecking order, brown is definitely a new neutral option she believes is ‘here to stay’.

Nude Lucy will be launching a brand new range on the 22nd August 2021, Nude Active, a collection of activewear crafted from premium recycled fabric (from post-consumer waste) in beautiful neutral, earthy tones.
